Collar:   Your puppy will go home with a collar so you won’t need to get one right away. Puppies grow quickly. Buy a inexpensive collar now and check it frequently for size until the pup is full grown. Most pups will do best on a flat buckle collar.

Crate: Crates are essential for raising a well-trained puppy! Ideally your pup has one in the house and one in the car.

Crate Mat/Bed: Do not get an expensive dog bed now. Wait till your pup is mature and no longer chewing, which can be as late as 2 years of age.

Bedsheet: Dark or opaque bedsheets to cover the crate to help your pup feel safe and to assist with crate training. For most crates, a very dark twin flat sheet works fine.

Exercise pen (X-pen): An ex-pen is your puppy's playpen to keep your pup, home and friend's houses safe and clean. They are portable so you can take them with you and your pup when you travel or visit.

Food bowl: I recommend stainless steel, non-slip bowls. Plastic and ceramic can negatively affect your pup's nose pigment. However, if your pup eats to fast, get a feeder that slows it down. Do not get raised feeders since they can increase the risk of bloat.

Kongs: Stuff Kongs with your pup's meals or treats to occupy your pup in the crate or ex-pen. When your pup is small, get one size larger. Most pups can handle them fine and you'll be able to use them longer in your pup's life. Goldens outgrow the tiny Kongs very quickly.

Leash: I recommend a 6' leash that is easy on your hands for all sizes and breeds. DO NOT GET chain leashes. 1/2' is a good width for large breed dogs.

Potty tray (optional): If you are going to put a potty tray in your pup's ex-pen because you cannot be available to the puppy for 3-4 hour periods during the day. I use a boot tray with bedding pellets.

Snuggle Puppy: I cannot recommend these toys more highly. They come with a "heartbeat" and warming packet so they replace mom and littermates. Snuggle Puppy
